Your end will be better than the beginning.

Revelation 1:8
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

It does not matter how terrible your past or present may be but know this for sure that you can only finish on top. Joseph started in the pit but ended on the tip of a kingdom that was not his because God was with him. Put all your effort into seeking God and He will do the rest. You Canberra a thief today but finish a treasurer tomorrow. Whatever problem you are facing right now, you will not die in it - only believe! There is nobody who has more knowledge, wisdom, or experience than God. He was the first, and He will be the last. There are times when I crumble with shame thinking about how I relate with this God. As we come to know Him more and more the core of our being should be wrecked and remade by who we are learning that He is. My prayer for you is that you are remade according to His wonderful design as you come to know Him.

Know that God is present in our midst.

Romans 1:18-20
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

People have no excuse in saying they don't know God exists. Just take a moment to observe nature around you. When an earthquake or tsunami occurs in a place know that God is angry because of the people's stubbornness in not aknowledging the true God who made the heavens and the earth. Whenever we want god to dance to our own type of music, He proves to us that He is the Lord of the dance!
Pharaoh could have released God's people when He had a chance. If he would have, God may have dealt with Egypt differently. Verse 20 seals the truth that nobody has any valid excuse to not believe that God exists. The entire bible is God revealing time after time who He is to all kinds of different people. This is done because God desires relationship with them. He desires relationship with you. Can you recognize God in nature; in the midst of the chaos of your life? Today, take time to recognize God and talk with Him throughout your day about anything that comes to your mind.

Asking in prayer gets answers.

Mark 11:22-24
“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “Truly[a] I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Some people say that if you pray for something that is in God’s will, it happens. Others say there is no such thing as an “unanswered prayer.” The bible teaches that anything is possible with God. The peace of Christ must reign in your heart in order for you to reconcile this truth with real life. Your prayers arrive at the ears of a sovereign God who has authority over all. Be driven in prayer by authentic dependence on Him. Asking and praying are not synonymous. Many people ask but not in prayer. In asking, there's also seeking and knocking - see Matthew 7 : 7.

You are no longer broken.

Genesis 2:15-17
The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

From this verse we must conclude that when Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they died. If they didn’t die then God lied – and God cannot lie. Humanity died a spiritual death that day, and our relationship with God was broken. Jesus was born, suffered, died, rose from the dead, and sent the Holy Spirit to us as a gift to seal us in relationship with God. Your relationship with God is repaired. Allow Christ to make you free.

Share the Good News with others

Philippians 2:21-22
For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel.

When Jesus sent the disciples out, it was 2 by 2. Later, even Paul was not a solo warrior for God. He took the responsibility to teach Timothy in the way he should go. Even more than that, Paul placed himself in community in order to preach the gospel. Becoming all things to all men (1 Cor. 9:22-23) is not the plan of a man who wants to run alone. If you consider yourself “entrusted” with the gospel - share it with someone who is hungry for truth. If you just started getting to know Christ, hunger for the truth of the gospel and submit to those willing to share.

God disciplines those He loves!

Hebrews 12:5-6
And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,

“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”

In our culture today we have watered down love to generating a warm, fuzzy feeling in someone’s heart. Discipline needs to be included in our picture of a love relationship between a parent and a child. You will not meet someone more trustworthy than the Lord. Discipline is part of His relationship with those He accepts as His children. It is important to be able to recognize when God may be disciplining you, and that discipline will always be purposed at forming your heart toward obedience to His plan for your life. Pray, ask forgiveness, surrender, and be willing to follow His lead.

Practice hospitality.

Romans 12:13
Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

I have four young kids whom I am trying to teach how to share, which is not always easy; especially when the thing to be shared is the last one. By default sharing is not a priority for them. They want to control the things they have and want to have everything new that they see. Nothing in this life belongs to us; we are merely stewards. Share what has been given to you with one another. Hospitality is just one way to show love. Remember, “All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other. (John 13:35)

Humility and the rest

1 Peter 5:6-7
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

God knows you intimately. Whether you let Him in or not, He knows. Take your cares and worries before Him. Throw them upon Him! He is always ready to prove faithful with all of the things in your life that seem too big to handle. The humility comes from surrender to how He decides to handle what you bring to Him. Trust that God has your best in mind – and be assured that He wishes for you to be proven faithful and grow in depending upon Him. Do what you can, let God do what you can’t.

Prey of a toothless lion!

1 Peter 5:8-9
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

If you believe in Christ, consider yourself “the prey of a toothless lion.” Not to be confused with the Lion of Judah; Christ, who has very real teeth and will protect you with them. Our enemy would love nothing more than to strike enough fear and doubt into your heart to change the direction of your life away from Christ. Satan wanders throughout the earth looking for opportunities to dismantle the faith of believers, and to continue selling lies to all. (See Job 1 and 2) Do not buy the lies, hold tight to the truth that makes you free.

Humility is a rare gem today!

Make peace with yourself and others

Revelation 3:19-20
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

Jesus Christ is knocking on the door to your heart, mind, and soul. The definition of repent: to feel such sorrow for sin or fault as to be disposed to change one's life for the better; be penitent. Feeling sorry for yourself and piling guilt onto your heart does nothing for you, and even less for God. Repentance implies a change of heart and a change in action - in lifestyle. Jesus promises that He will enter in and commune with the person who repents. Repent, believe, and be empowered to live free in Christ!

Do you have the peace of Christ?

Colossians 3:15
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

We are called to be a singular body; one in heart and one in purpose. Christ is the head of a singular body, the church. Peace should reign in your heart, and it should be encouraged in every situation within churches and in any dispute between brothers and sisters. A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. Work toward peace among one another. Remember, Christ made peace between you and God that cost His life. Do you need to become a peacemaker?

Perseverance

Hebrews 10:36
So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

Jesus believes in you. The richly rewarded individual will have lived by faith. You do not gain rewards from Christ by shrinking back from your faith. Perseverance is a critical stepping stone on the road to faith; perseverance then character, character then faith. (Romans 5:3-5).

Trust your mentor

Hebrews 13:17
Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.

I am inherently suspicious of a leader who has too much power and not enough accountability. Leaders should exemplify balance, responsibility, accountability, and humility in their leadership. Do not give your allegiance blindly or without consideration. However, when you have made a decision to follow leadership – do so with your utmost. This will empower your leadership to lead even better, and that increase will be visited to your life and growth in Christ just the same. To all leaders out there: you’ll give an account to the One who is amazing. Stay right with the Lord.

Marriage is a precious gift that people no longer value.

I haven’t been married for 72 days. And I’m not Kim Kardashian.

Having been married for barely two months, I don’t know a lot about marriage. Still, I can’t imagine two people having irreconcilable differences already. On Monday, Kim Kardashian cited just that when she filed for divorce from Kris Humphries.

People might say it’s none of our business. Unfortunately, Kim sacrificed her privacy when she turned her wedding into a four-hour, two-day, two-part television special. Last month, E! aired “Kim’s Fairytale Wedding.” You pay the price when you sell your life.

I was one of the 10.5 million people who tuned in to the over-the-top extravaganza. I had high hopes for Kris and Kim. I’m a romantic like that. But I’m not shocked at this sad turn of events.

Truthfully, there was a lot of arguing going on in that two-part wedding special. Kris wanted Kim to take his name. He wanted a life with less paparazzi, like he has back in Minnesota. He likes his dogs in the bed.

Kim is about business. She didn’t want to compromise the Kardashian brand for the lesser-known Humphries name. She wouldn’t dare give up L.A. or New York for Minnesota — that’s inconvenient for work. And dogs in the bed? Not in her house.

Through all the extravagant and complicated little details of the wedding, they seemed to skip right over premarital counseling. They didn’t sit down and talk through their differences beyond arguments that were never resolved. At one point in the episode, Kris even mentions never seeing the weaker, more vulnerable side of Kim when she breaks down about her father.

Unfortunately, there’s a lot you don’t see when you’ve dated for only six months, get engaged and then married just three months later. They’ve been in each other’s lives for less than a year, and most of it has been on-camera. That has to be hard.

Some might say that’s plenty of time. After all, it worked for Khloe Kardashian and hubby Lamar Odom. Why not Kim? Blogs are buzzing with reports that the Kardashian-Humphries wedding was made for TV.

Jared Shapiro disagrees. The executive editor at Life & Style Weekly told CNN that Kim and Kris had the real thing, and it wasn’t about the flashing lights.

“Guess what, she really got married, and she really got divorced,” he said. “This part wasn’t scripted. … She didn’t want to get divorced in front of the whole world. … This isn’t a game she played. She tried to make it work. It didn’t. She pulled the trigger.”

I’m not bashing Kim. I don’t know whether the wedding was scripted. What I do know is she admitted that “she was caught up with the hoopla and the filming of the TV show” when she probably should have ended her relationship. And I fear that a lot of people get caught up in the show when it comes to weddings.

I wish people would take marriage more seriously. Sometimes things just don’t work out. I get that. But as a newlywed with hopes and prayers for a lifelong marriage, I find these twisted portrayals of romance and drive-through divorces disheartening.

Filming a wedding should never become bigger than your actual life. It’s about the marriage, not that one day. And television — be it Kim’s special or the dozens of bridal shows — doesn’t push that truth.

Kim was hoping for a fairy tale is what she says. But you don’t just snap your fingers and get that. It takes time and understanding. If you have differences, you talk it out. It takes longer than an episode of your favorite show. When you’re in love, don’t you work for that longevity instead of working for one day?

I once interviewed Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of “Eat, Pray, Love.” She divorced, gave up on love and then gave marriage a second try, so I asked her what she learned that changed her mind. She said marriage was a work in progress.

“The credits always roll after the wedding or the happy ending in a movie,” she said. “But there isn’t ever an ending. You never coast. You are continually figuring things out. You’re refining it and changing the oil on that thing. You wrap duct tape around it and make it work every day.”

Fairy tales are for TV. The reality is you work for love, the real-life, healthy-yet-imperfect kind of happily ever after.

Surrender your crisis to Christ

Psalm 33:10-11
The LORD foils the plans of the nations;
he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever,
the purposes of his heart through all generations.

No matter who your president is or what your government or leadership looks like – God has power over them. Throughout history God is in the business of setting up the story so that the purposes of His heart continue to stand. Babel, Egypt (Pharaoh), Israel, Rome); name your kingdom and it was God behind the downfall of nations that did not remember Him. It’s foolish to think that God has changed, or that the same thing does not hold true today. God is sovereign, and our future as a nation is in His hands. Pray for His mercy on your nation and for people's hearts to turn toward God.

Obedience is a rare quality.

Jeremiah 7:22-24
For when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt and spoke to them, I did not just give them commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices, but I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you. But they did not listen or pay attention; instead, they followed the stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts. They went backward and not forward.

This is one of the many verses that displays that obedience is greater than sacrifice. God’s desire for Israel was that they would obey Him. Today, consider whether you are obedient to God. Your heart will have “inclinations of evil”, but when it does you must turn to Him for strength! The goal on this earth is not the absence of temptation, but practicing reliance upon God that is stronger than any temptation that will come against you. Obedience is perfected in relationship, and right action comes from a right relationship with God.
